Arriving In Morocco

Dinner In Marrakech

Our first stop, just 20 minutes from the airport, was Rotisserie de la Paix—a French-Moroccan gem that perfectly blended the rich culinary traditions of both cultures. As we stepped inside, we were immediately enveloped in the inviting warmth of the restaurant, with the tantalising aroma of roasted meats filling the air.

The signature dish—succulent rotisserie chicken—was a must-try, served with fresh salads and an array of flavourful sides. With a glass of crisp Moroccan wine in hand, we settled into the vibrant yet laid-back atmosphere, enjoying a meal that beautifully combined French finesse with Moroccan flair. It was the perfect introduction to the flavours of the region before the adventure truly began.

On The Road To Widiane

The journey from Marrakech to Widiane took approximately three hours, winding through some of Morocco’s most diverse and captivating landscapes. We left the bustle of the city behind us, and almost immediately the road gave way to the quieter, more serene countryside. As the urban sprawl faded in the rear-view mirror, the scenery shifted to rugged hills and expansive valleys, offering glimpses of everyday life in the small rural villages scattered along the route.

The drive itself was smooth and comfortable, thanks to our air-conditioned vehicle. We had plenty of time to take in the dramatic terrain, with the Atlas Mountains rising in the distance. The contrast between the arid desert plains and the pockets of lush greenery near rivers and streams gave the journey a real sense of adventure. It was a chance to pause, look out the window, and soak in the raw beauty of this untamed region before arriving at Widiane.

First Night In Morocco

We arrived at Widiane late, greeted by the soft glow of lanterns and the stillness that settled over the hills. The staff welcomed us with warm smiles and a refreshing drink, setting the tone for the peaceful retreat ahead. Check-in was smooth and easy, and before long, we were heading to our rooms—each one designed with comfort and luxury in mind.

That first night was all about unwinding and soaking in the calm. Our rooms were spacious, with a huge, plush bed that promised a deep and much-needed sleep after a full day of travel. Crisp linens and soft lighting added to the sense of ease, while the quiet of the night—broken only by the occasional sound of nature—wrapped around us like a blanket. It was the perfect start to our stay.

Breakfast

Breakfast at Widiane was a generous affair, with a large buffet spread that catered to every taste. We gathered as a team to enjoy fresh fruits, flaky pastries, local cheeses, and rich, freshly brewed coffee—alongside a selection of traditional Moroccan delicacies.

As we ate, panoramic views from the 5th floor offered breathtaking vistas of Lake Bin El Oudine. The still waters reflected the surrounding mountains and lush green landscape, creating a scene that was almost too perfect to be real. The relaxed atmosphere and wide variety of options made it the ideal way to start the day—well-fed, well-rested, and ready for the adventure ahead.

Heading Into The Hills

After breakfast, we gathered our kit and met in reception to select our guns the from a well-maintained selection of hire guns held at the hotel. With everything prepared in advance, the morning moved at an easy pace, giving us time to check our gear and load up.

The journey to the first drive took around 20 minutes, most of which was off-road. The convoy of land cruisers handled the rough terrain with ease as we bumped along dusty mountain passes. The landscape was raw and beautiful, a patchwork of rocky hills and dense cover that felt a world away from the stillness of the hotel.

Parked on a mountain track, we drew pegs and met our loaders—calm, capable, and ready to go. After a quick round of introductions, a safety brief and a few final adjustments, we were set. The atmosphere was relaxed but focused. With the sun on our backs rising steadily above the mountains.

Drive 1

The first drive of the day set the tone in unforgettable fashion. We took our places along a narrow track carved into the side of the Atlas Mountains, surrounded by rugged peaks and sweeping valleys. The air was cool and still, filled with that quiet anticipation that always comes just before the action begins.

When the birds started to come, they came fast—really fast. The partridge broke over the hillside with speed and purpose, darting through the air with impressive pace. There was no easing into it; from the very first shot, it was clear this would be an exhilarating day.

The scenery was spectacular, but there was barely time to take it in between waves of adrenaline and reloads. We found our rhythm quickly, helped by the steady hands and sharp eyes of our loaders. It was classic mountain shooting—testing, exciting, and utterly absorbing. A true introduction to what Morocco has to offer.
