Cheviot Hills
Nestled within the picturesque landscape of the Scottish Borders, the Cheviot Hills stand as a testament to nature’s grandeur. With their rolling slopes and majestic peaks, these ancient hills offer a captivating panorama for both avid adventurers and nature enthusiasts alike. The rugged terrain and heather-clad moorlands of the Cheviots create a perfect habitat for an array of wildlife, including red grouse, mountain hares, and elusive birds of prey. The Cheviot Hills truly embody the allure of the great outdoors, inviting exploration and providing an idyllic setting for unforgettable shooting experiences.
The Estate
The recently acquired ‘Calroust’ beat of the Roxburghe Estates offers an enchanting setting for shooting enthusiasts. With its steep valleys and the gentle tread of the Cheviot Hills, it provides an ideal backdrop to showcase a delightful blend of exquisitely presented pheasants and a sprinkling of agile, ascending red-legged partridges. It is indeed a captivating location to spend a day immersed in the beauty of the countryside.
A Day In The Field
The day at Calroust will unfold with a delightful itinerary of five thrilling drives. The majority of these drives take place in expansive open settings, allowing for splendid views of the breathtaking topography that extends as far as the eye can behold. As the horn resonates after the second drive, guns will make their way to the pinnacle of the valley, where the esteemed ‘Calroust Arms’ awaits. Here, amidst arguably some of the most magnificent scenery the Scottish Borders has to offer, elevenses will be served, providing a moment of respite and a chance to savor the surroundings. Following this tranquil interlude, two more exhilarating drives will take place, setting the stage for a well-deserved and hearty lunch in the warm embrace of the ‘Hopehead Bothy.’ Amidst the cozy ambience of a crackling wood-burning fire, guests can indulge in a satisfying meal.
