The Lodge
Our characterful lodge basks in the southern sunlight, perched on the outskirts of the settlement. Step into the remarkable trophy room, doubling as the lounge and dining area, offering guests a panoramic vista of the volcanic Mátra hills cascading towards the south.
As you wander through the awe-inspiring hunting lodge, be captivated by its splendid decor and rich history.
Chateau Mátra offers cozy and elegant lodging for up to 20 guests, featuring six twin rooms and seven doubles, all boasting luxurious en suite facilities.
Each room is adorned in the grand theme of the Chateau, and is equipped with a television, mini fridge, complimentary WiFi, and vistas of the picturesque estate.
The majestic creamy-yellow facade exudes both grandeur and warmth. A charming courtyard awaits at the foot of a sweeping staircase leading to the entrance, serving as the stage for the final day’s display of the day’s hunt.
After a fulfilling day of hunting, the lodge welcomes you with delectable Hungarian specialties and game delicacies, complemented by the finest Hungarian wines, served in the elegant banquet hall. Evenings provide the perfect setting to swap tales of the day’s adventures over drinks, whether in the trophy hall, club lounge, or perhaps even in the sauna.
A Day In The Field - Pheasant Shooting In Hungary
A typical day at Chateau Mátra commences with a wholesome breakfast of freshly prepared delights around 8:00 am. Hunters then gather their gear and prepare for the day ahead during the morning briefing, which covers safety protocols and outlines the day’s plan, providing an opportunity to meet your loader.
By 9:15 am, the lodge’s 4x4s transport guests to their designated pegs, ready to commence shooting, typically starting around 10:00 am. The morning typically includes two drives, with a break in between for refreshments to sustain energy levels.
Following the break, the hunt resumes with two more drives until dusk approaches, signaling the return to Chateau Mátra, where a hearty lunch awaits, allowing guests the remainder of the afternoon to unwind before dinner, served around 8:00 pm.
Pheasant shooting in Hungary is renowned as some of the finest in Europe, if not the world, with a typical day’s shoot yielding between 300 to 600 birds. The majority of the shooting involves traditional driven techniques, with guns stationed in valleys alongside loaders, while beaters flush out birds from the undergrowth towards awaiting guns. In addition to pheasant shooting, duck hunting is also available at certain times of the year, offering opportunities on the various ponds and lakes scattered across the estate.
